The Indian cricket team has intensified its preparations for the upcoming Asia Cup 2023, with players participating in rigorous fitness drills at the KSCA-Alur grounds. Notable Indian stars, including Virat Kohli, Rohit Sharma, and Hardik Pandya, assembled for a six-day conditioning and skill-enhancement camp in Bengaluru.

Virat Kohli’s exceptional fitness prowess shone as he aced the Yo-Yo Test with a remarkable score of 17.2, surpassing the BCCI’s set parameter of 16.5. Other players, including captain Rohit Sharma and ODI vice-captain Hardik Pandya, also successfully completed the tests, reflecting their commitment to peak performance.

The training camp witnessed the participation of players like Jasprit Bumrah, Prasidh Krishna, Sanju Samson, and Tilak Varma, who rejoined after the Ireland T20I tour. While the camp initially involved comprehensive fitness assessments, the focus is set to shift towards outdoor match simulation sessions, overseen by batting coach Vikram Rathour and head coach Rahul Dravid.

The team management’s attention centers on KL Rahul, who is nursing a minor injury. Despite Sanju Samson being named as a cover for Rahul, the management remains optimistic about Rahul’s fitness and ability to take on wicketkeeping duties. Similarly, Shreyas Iyer’s return from a back injury has been carefully monitored under the guidance of NCA authorities.

The fitness drills entail comprehensive health checks, including lipid profiles, blood sugar levels, uric acid, calcium, Vitamin B12 and D, creatinine, testosterone, and Dexa tests, among others. As the camp progresses, the team aims to fine-tune their match strategies and skillsets, particularly with the Asia Cup on the horizon.

The conditioning camp is scheduled to conclude on August 29th, followed by the Indian team’s departure for Colombo the next day. With an unwavering focus on fitness, skill development, and strategic planning, the Indian cricket team aims to make its mark in the upcoming Asia Cup 2023.
