BCCI Expresses Displeasure Over Virat Kohli’s Instagram Post Revealing Yo-Yo Fitness Test Score
BCCI expresses dismay as Virat Kohli shares yo-yo fitness test score on Instagram, violating confidentiality. Players reminded of social media guidelines to prevent contract breach. Asia Cup prep continues for senior cricketers.
In a surprising turn of events, the Board of Control of Cricket in India (BCCI) has conveyed its dissatisfaction over a recent Instagram story posted by renowned cricketer Virat Kohli. The story in question featured Kohli proudly announcing his successful completion of the yo-yo fitness test, a significant assessment conducted to gauge players’ physical endurance and readiness for upcoming tournaments. This incident has sparked controversy, as the BCCI maintains that the results of the yo-yo fitness test are confidential and should not be disclosed on public platforms.
According to a directive issued by the cricket administration, the disclosure of yo-yo fitness test scores on social media platforms constitutes a breach of confidentiality and potentially violates players’ contractual obligations. A report by reputable news source The Indian Express highlights the seriousness with which the BCCI regards this issue. The directive extends to all players scheduled to undergo the yo-yo fitness test in preparation for the highly anticipated Asia Cup 2023.
Players were verbally informed of these guidelines, emphasizing the need to refrain from sharing any confidential information, especially on social media platforms. While the BCCI acknowledges the players’ desire to engage with their fans and document their training journey, it maintains that divulging specific test scores compromises the integrity of the assessment process.
A BCCI official, quoted in The Indian Express report, elucidated the rationale behind this directive and its implications for players: “Players have been informed verbally to avoid posting any confidential matter on social media platforms. They can post pictures while training but posting a score leads to breach of contract clause.”
The incident unfolded after Virat Kohli, an iconic figure in the world of cricket, took to his Instagram handle to celebrate his accomplishment in the yo-yo fitness test. In his story, he expressed his elation at completing the test successfully, along with the numerical result of 17.2. While Kohli’s intentions may have been innocuous, the BCCI’s stance underscores the need for players to exercise caution when sharing sensitive information.
It is noteworthy that other prominent players like skipper Rohit Sharma and all-rounder Hardik Pandya also participated in the yo-yo fitness test during a 6-day training camp at Alur, commencing on Thursday. Reliable news agency PTI reported that these senior players successfully cleared the test, aligning with the team’s preparations for the impending Asia Cup 2023.
The training camp brought together a select group of senior Indian cricket team members who are slated to represent the nation in the Asia Cup. Alongside Kohli, Sharma, and Pandya, notable names such as Ravindra Jadeja, Mohammed Shami, and Mohammed Siraj participated in the camp. Players like Jasprit Bumrah, Tilak Verma Prasidh Krishna, and Sanju Samson, who were absent due to the Ireland series, are anticipated to join the camp on Friday, contributing to the team’s collective readiness for the upcoming tournament.
