Indian Openers Shine in ODI Rankings Ahead of World Cup; Major Moves for Indian Players

Indian cricket’s rising stars shine in latest ODI rankings, with Gill and Kishan making strides. Notable movements across batting and bowling categories for Indian and West Indies players revealed.

In a prelude to the upcoming 50-over World Cup, Indian opening duo Shubman Gill and Ishan Kishan made significant strides in the latest ODI rankings unveiled on Wednesday.

Shubman Gill advanced by two spots, securing fifth position in the rankings, bringing him in close proximity to Pakistan’s batting trio: Babar Azam, Fakhar Zaman, and Imam-ul-Haq. With 743 rating points, Gill’s impressive performance against the West Indies elevated him within reach of Zaman (755) and Imam-ul-Haq (745), occupying the third and fourth positions.

Ishan Kishan’s performance earned him a career-best ranking as he climbed nine places to the 36th spot overall. Hardik Pandya also displayed a commendable effort against the West Indies, elevating his ranking by ten places to secure 71st place in the batting chart.

The latest rankings displayed a surge for Indian players across various categories. Hardik Pandya’s versatility was highlighted as he climbed five places to the 11th position in the ODI all-rounders list. Among bowlers, Kuldeep Yadav’s exceptional performance earned him a four-place jump to break into the top-10, ranking at 10th place. Seamer Shardul Thakur made significant progress as well, moving up three spots to 30th place, buoyed by his eight scalps against the West Indies.

The T20I rankings also saw notable movements. Newcomer Tilak Varma made a striking entry, landing in the 46th spot among T20I batters due to his impressive start in international cricket. On the bowling front, Kuldeep Yadav demonstrated his prowess by leaping 36 places to the 51st position.

The rankings for West Indies players also reflected shifts, with power-hitter Nicholas Pooran and skipper Rovman Powell experiencing notable boosts in their T20I batter rankings. On the bowling side, pacer Alzarri Joseph and spinner Akeal Hosein surged ahead, making substantial gains on the T20I bowlers’ list.

As the cricketing landscape evolves, these rankings foreshadow the dynamic performances and intense competition that lie ahead in the cricketing calendar.
